A Slice of Homegrown Comfort: Kafe Kiri Kanan – Batu Pahat’s Dim Sum Haven
In the bustling heart of Batu Pahat, where modern cafes and trendy restaurants line the streets, lies a haven of old-school charm and nostalgic flavors: Kafe Kiri Kanan. This restaurant isn’t just about dim sum; it’s a gastronomic portal to childhood memories, where steaming baskets of dumplings and the clatter of plates weave tales of family recipes passed down through generations.

Where Tradition Meets Flavor: Forget Michelin-starred restaurants and fancy plating. Kafe Kiri Kanan is a celebration of authentic Cantonese dim sum, prepared with meticulous attention to detail and the freshest ingredients. Their har gow boasts translucent, delicate wrappers enveloping plump prawns that burst with flavor. The siu mai are little bundles of juicy perfection, seasoned to perfection. And their signature Nyonya Asam Nanas Ikan, with its sweet and sour fish bathed in creamy asam sauce, is a true testament to the region’s unique culinary heritage.

Beyond the Classics: While the classics reign supreme, Kafe Kiri Kanan isn’t afraid to inject a touch of culinary magic. Their Portuguese Tart, with its golden, flakey crust and creamy egg custard filling, is a delightful fusion of cultures. The Crispy Carrot Cake is a local favorite, with its savory texture and caramelized edges that melt in your mouth. And for a healthy twist, their Vegetarian Dumplings are a vibrant medley of fresh vegetables, bursting with flavor and goodness.

A Feast for the Senses: The experience at Kafe Kiri Kanan extends beyond the food. The restaurant boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere, where familiar chatter fills the air and families gather around steaming baskets, sharing stories and laughter. The kampung-style décor, with its rustic charm and vintage touches, adds to the sense of nostalgia. It’s like stepping into your grandmother’s kitchen, filled with the aroma of delicious food and the warmth of loved ones.

Today, I went to Kafe Kiri Kanan with my family and both the food and service was perfect here. I cannot express how well this restaurant is and I hope I can visit here once again. Firstly, the food here is a masterpiece. We ordered a lot of food and they were a gastronomical ecstasy. They were fulfilling and nutritious. After eating our lunch here, not only were our stomachs full but our hearts too. Secondly, the service here was terrific. Not only was the preparation of the food quick and fast but the waitresses are also very polite. What sets them from an normal restaurant is that I did not know how to speak Malay but the young waitress could speak different languages. This was very surprising as throughout all the restaurants I have sat in, this was the only restaurant that had multilingual waitresses. Thirdly, the environment here very lively. The restaurant played different traditional songs and the decorations were colourful and bright. This made me feel like a time traveler travelling throughout time and ending up here. So beautiful! Last but not least, I would like to thank this restaurant for their unwavering efforts in keeping this restaurant in such a good condition. Thank you!

While their meal is delicious, their iced tea is exceptional. I recommend giving it a shot when you visit. They play only classic tunes that evoke a sense of being in a village 👍🏻There is plenty of street parking, so make sure you pay in advance or else 💸

Food were good but kopi ais was too sweet for my liking. Otherwise, service was great with attentive staffs and quick food preparation time.

The staff were friendly, ambiance was perfect, maybe because I decided to swing by on a weekday, but if I ever find myself in Batu Pahat again, I would go to this cafe.
