JAWI PERANAKAN HERITAGE CUISINE
simply unforgettable, food for feasting
Jawi House was established by the Karim family of Punjabi-Jawi Peranakan ancestry , dating back six generations in George Town and four generations of women who created this incredible cuisine. Jawi Peranakan cuisine is known by the Malays as ‘food for feasting’ and we assure you that dining at Jawi House takes you back centuries of magical culinary history, along the early spice routes when Malay women lovingly domesticated the spices and herbs brought home by their Persian, Arab, Indian and Punjabi husbands and created a culinary experience which is simply unforgettable.

in the last weekA little disappointed dining here. Staff doesn’t feel welcoming at all. They quickly denied our request saying there’s no seats for walk ins atm when he could’ve accommodate us and told us to wait in line if we wanted to (which we don’t mind at all). He didn’t apologise to us but apologised to one of his customer who made reservation for the wait. Food served was so-so as we expected more since its a famous restaurant. Laksa lemak tasted normal, expected the meat for mutton biryani to be soft but it wasn’t, however the sandwich tasted good. Food are served in big portion. Price range is also on the high side. There’s also quite a number of foreigners rather than locals when we dine here. Also, no one was that the front desk when we wanted to pay so I find it very weird. But I do like the restaurant, it’s beautifully decorated.

2 weeks agoPerfectly located at Armenian Square with rows of beautiful houses, temples, restaurants and cafes. Striking historical photos adorn the wall, and a nice Christmas touch. Service was prompt maybe because we came early for dinner at 6pm. Food was pretty, aromatic and tasty. The 3 types of rice were a delight of herbs, lentils and tomato. The appetizer Cucur udang was okay but the 3 proteins of chicken curry, beef rendang and prawns, plus a medley of vegetables were very delicious. Fairly priced for a wonderful setting. Will recommend. Ooh the sambal (in teaspoon) was a winner! A clever twist to the usual traditional flavor

a week agoFabulous small restaurant (with air conditioning!) in the heart of the historical area that delivers flavourful, delicious and freshly made Malaysian food. The Beef Rendang and Herbal Lemuni rice was exceptional. Nothing but deliciousness in each, fragrant, spicy, flavourful mouthful. I high recommend.

2 months agoMy family and I came here for dinner (reservations were made in advance, like how everyone should do as there is limited seating) and we could not be more satisfied. The food was spectacularly flavourful, service was great, ambience was calming and decor was a nice addition to learn about the history. We had the chicken biryani(meat literally falls off the bone and it was so tender), the Levant Platter which consists of Baba ganoush, Hummus, raw salad with feta cheese(I think) and it comes with warm fluffy pita bread which goes together really well, & for drinks, we had nutmeg with lime juice and loved every single thing!Truly no regrets at all and it is a must visit place in Penang.
