JAWI PERANAKAN HERITAGE CUISINE
simply unforgettable, food for feasting
Jawi House was established by the Karim family of Punjabi-Jawi Peranakan ancestry , dating back six generations in George Town and four generations of women who created this incredible cuisine. Jawi Peranakan cuisine is known by the Malays as ‘food for feasting’ and we assure you that dining at Jawi House takes you back centuries of magical culinary history, along the early spice routes when Malay women lovingly domesticated the spices and herbs brought home by their Persian, Arab, Indian and Punjabi husbands and created a culinary experience which is simply unforgettable.

4 months agoWonderful Peranakan-Muslim restaurant. Beautiful little old house which is decorated very nicely too. The food was marvelous. I had a green mango salad, which reminded me of Som Tum in Thailand without the fish sauce. Delicious! The mutton stew with bread was excellent as well. Super tender and rich in taste. Service was top notch. I asked to make the dishes spicy and spicy they were. Superb dining experience and the prices were very fair. I will be back. Only the music didn’t really match the ambiance (they played 80s soft rock including…BON JOVI)

3 months agoA cozy restaurant tucked in an alley well decorated bringing back nostalgic vibes from the past. Jawi House Cafe Gallery specialises in Peranakan and Middle Eastern cuisine. The cucur udang was crispy and not too oily, levant platter is fun to eat in a group though the armenian salad is nothing exciting.Chicken briyani is good but chicken can be more moist and laksa lemak was pretty standard.Service is good and atmosphere is comforting but parking is difficult.

4 months agoPretty restaurant with a homely feel specialising in Malay traditional feasting dishes. The platter starter was lovely especially the Armenian salad. Service was very slow and the portions were small but the food itself was tasty and nicely presented

3 months agoGreat little spot for an authentic malaysian feed. Food was good quality and generous and they don't use msg. Reasonably prices and service was very good also. They were late to open on the day we visited so don't go the there too early.
